It’s an exciting time for PhD Nutrition as 2025 will kick off an entirely new line up of brand ambassadors, from hybrid athletes to qualified sports nutritionists.
The two brands sell through the phd.com and scienceinsport.com digital platforms, third-party online marketplaces including Amazon, as well as extensive domestic and international retail distribution.
In 2022 the company opened a state of the art 160,000 square foot manufacturing and logistics facility in Blackburn, Lancashire. Providing a significant advantage in product costs and customer response time and most importantly, allowing Science In Sport to lead the way for quality standards.
Science In Sport is the nutrition partner to globally recognised elite teams, including Tottenham Hotspur, Saracens Rugby, British Triathlon, Aquatics GB, British Cycling, England Netball and Loughborough Sports. The Role
The Senior Finance Manager role will support accurate financial reporting, statutory compliance, audit delivery and effective management of key accounting areas across the UK and European business. The role provides high-quality financial information, maintains robust controls and supports the Finance team with month-end, year-end, tax, audit and reporting activities. It is responsible for accounting and reporting across six UK legal entities and contributes to reliable management information, statutory accounts, consolidation schedules and Finance process improvement.
This role will report directly to the Head of Finance and will work closely with Finance colleagues, operational teams, external auditors, tax advisors and stakeholders across the UK and European business. The role has no direct reports but is expected to collaborate across teams to obtain accurate financial information, resolve queries and support Finance deliverables.

Salary: Up to £75,000 per annum

The work - Your 4 most important responsibilities
Prepare and review UK and European profit and loss accounts and balance sheets, ensuring accurate, complete and timely monthly financial results.
Own accounting and reporting for six UK legal entities, maintaining accurate records and supporting statutory and internal reporting requirements.
Lead the external audit process, including preparation of audit schedules, responding to auditor queries and ensuring deliverables are completed on time.
Manage key accounting areas including consolidation schedules, statutory accounts, corporation tax schedules, R&D tax relief support, fixed assets, leases, intangibles and overhead reporting.
Accountability – what you are responsible for delivering
Delivery of accurate month-end reporting, management information and supporting commentary for assigned UK and European entities.
Preparation and maintenance of consolidation schedules, statutory accounts, audit schedules and supporting documentation.
Ownership of balance sheet control, reconciliations and accounting records for areas of responsibility.
Accurate accounting for fixed assets, intangible assets, leases, depreciation, disposals and fixed asset register reconciliations.
Preparation of corporation tax schedules and R&D tax relief analysis, working with internal stakeholders and external advisors as required.
Identification and escalation of variances, risks and accounting issues, alongside support for continuous improvement across Finance processes and controls.
Capability - the skills and behaviours required to do this job well
A seasoned accountant with strong technical understanding of management accounts, statutory reporting, audit processes, consolidation accounting and balance sheet control.
Experience of external audit delivery and the ability to manage audit requirements, queries and deadlines effectively.
Confident Excel and financial systems skills, with the ability to analyse data and present financial information clearly.
Excellent attention to detail, strong organisation and the ability to work accurately to tight deadlines.
Clear communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with Finance colleagues, operational teams, auditors, tax advisors and wider stakeholders.
Performance – how you will know you are doing a great job
Month-end, management reporting, statutory reporting and consolidation deliverables are completed accurately and on time.
Audit schedules, supporting documentation and responses to auditor queries are well prepared, robust and delivered within agreed deadlines.
Balance sheet reconciliations, fixed asset records, tax schedules and overhead reporting are accurate, complete and supported by clear evidence.
Risks, variances and accounting issues are identified early, investigated thoroughly and escalated appropriately.
Specific metrics will be set when in role and will be reviewed and built upon regularly. Alongside this, you will be supported with a personal performance plan that will enable you to continue improving your own performance and impact.

Qualified accountant, ideally ACA, with relevant and demonstrable finance experience in a complex or multinational environment.
