PhD Nutrition is a premium, active-nutrition brand for the active lifestyle community wanting intelligent nutrition to help them achieve their goals. It’s an exciting time for PhD Nutrition as 2025 will kick off an entirely new line up of brand ambassadors, from hybrid athletes to qualified sports nutritionists.

The two brands sell through the phd.com and scienceinsport.com digital platforms, third-party online marketplaces including Amazon, as well as extensive domestic and international retail distribution.

In 2022 the company opened a state of the art 160,000 square foot manufacturing and logistics facility in Blackburn, Lancashire. Providing a significant advantage in product costs and customer response time and most importantly, allowing Science In Sport to lead the way for quality standards.

The Role

As a Production Shift Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and safe running of production operations within a world-class food manufacturing facility. You will lead, support and coach your team to meet quality, efficiency, and cost targets while fostering a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and high performance. You will work closely with Health & Safety, Engineering, Warehouse, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to meet shared objectives while maintaining flexibility to support wider business needs.

• Contract: Full time, Permanent

• Salary: 37 - 40,000

• Working Hours: 11 hours, 4 on 4 off

The work - Your 4 most important responsibilities

• Ensure the weekly production plan is completed according to the new agreed Bill of Materials (BOM) rates, meeting standard cost targets.

• Oversee and lead the night shift team to support high performance and adherence to standards. Monitoring and controlling labour costs on a shift-by-shift basis, to ensure budget compliance and cost efficiency.

• Assign and monitor warehouse duties, ensuring optimal staff utilisation to maintain low costs.

• Champion Health & Safety procedures and reporting, ensuring strict adherence to all safety protocols.

• Send out daily reports in a timely manner, to track the performance of each asset and department.

• Conduct regular check-ins and 1-1 meetings with team members to monitor and support their development, training, performance, and target achievement.

• Reduce changeover times across all assets, addressing and resolving any issues, to improve downtime, increase efficiencies, and lower costs.

• Maintain high standards of product quality by closely monitoring production processes and implementing corrective actions when necessary.

• Promote a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for process enhancements and implementing best practices.

Experience

• Previous experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry, with an understanding of production and warehouse processes and best practices.

• Knowledge of Health & Safety protocols and in support to ensure a safe work environment.

• Experience in leading a team, or aspirations to develop leadership skills.
